Empowering communities for climate resilience

Extreme Heat in Santa Rosa

Second Nature is supporting Greenbelt Alliance and Latino Service Providers on an innovative project to address extreme heat in southwest Santa Rosa. The Southwest Santa Rosa Holistic, Equitable, Actionable, Transformative (HEAT) Action Plan is funded by the Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation.

The project is designed to empower local youth to become community scientists and local climate leaders who can evaluate the challenges their neighborhood faces and advocate for specific, impactful actions that center community priorities.

Over the next year, SN staff will work with Greenbelt Alliance, Latino Service Providers, and LSP’s Climate Impact Innovators to collect data on extreme heat and then develop a HEAT action plan, which will include a network of green interventions to mediate heat and improve neighborhood ecology.
