ASLA 2025: Rewilding New York City — History, Design & Ecology

October 2025

At the ASLA Conference on Landscape Architecture 2025 in New Orleans, Robin Grossinger, Founder of Second Nature Ecology + Design, joined Eric W. Sanderson (New York Botanical Garden) and David Seiter (Future Green Studio) to present Rewilding New York City: History, Design & Ecology.

The session explored how historical ecological data, contemporary urban ecology, and post-occupancy wildlife monitoring can guide the design of more biodiverse cities. Using our work on the award-winning St. John’s Terminal as a case study, the discussion highlighted how integrating ecological history and design innovation can help bring the wild back into the built environment.
